Proposed County Employee Paid Family Leave Policy
• Primary Caregiver Parental Leave – 14 weeks paid can be taken in connection with the birth of an employee’s biological child or the placement of an adopted or foster child within an employee’s home.
• Secondary Caregiver Parental Leave – 8 weeks paid can be taken in connection with the birth of an employee’s biological child or the placement of an adopted or foster child within an employee’s home.
Primary Caregiver: Is defined as the parent who has primary responsibility for the child immediately following the child’s birth or adoption.
Secondary Caregiver: Is defined as the parent who has secondary responsibility for the child within the first year of the child’s birth or adoption.
Paid Leave: Buncombe County will pay 100% of individual’s salary during approved leave. Under this proposed policy, employees may take intermittent Parental Leave during the first year following a birth or adoption.
